Marcos Ligato started his motorsport career in motocross, winning the 1995 Cordoba Regional Championship in the 125 cc class. He achieved quite a lot of success and in 1996 he was the Argentinian Supercross champion.

In 1997 he switched to rallying starting with Renault 18. His first event was a regional rally which he won easily before taking other five overall victories and the title with co-driver Angel Alaejos. He was the best rookie in the Gran Premio, the last round of the season for the Argentinian Rally Championship after being second in class A7.

In 1998 he was Cordoba Rally Champion for the second consecutive time, still with Renault. His world debut came in the Rally Argentina, where he took part with a Group N Subaru. He placed third in the category and was the best local driver of the event. Then he bought a Group N Mitsubishi to enter the last national round of the year, where he retired.

In 1999 he took overall honours in the Cordoba Summer Rally Series with the Renault and started a campaign in the Group N Argentinian Championship with the Mitsubishi. He got some impressive results and finished fourth in the ranking after his first national win at La Rioja. In Rally Argentina he retired due to the damaged suspension.

Season 2000 showed that he is among the front-runners of the Argentinian Rally Championship. He placed sesond in both the overall and Group N championships. The other important target for him was the South American series. Marcos and his co-driver Ruben Garcia became champions of that international division in both the Overall and Production classes.

In 2001 he jumped to World Rally Championship events and won the group N category in Finland. The season 2002 was very frustrating, but he showed that the speed is still there.

In 2003 he will tackle all seven rounds of the Junior World Rally Championship in a Fiat Punto S1600 and he will also contest the Production Car World Rally Championship in a Mitsubishi Lancer. Marcos´ ambition is keep on fighting for the leading places of the WRC Group N and become a works driver in the future.
