Martin Rowe made his debut on rallies in 1990 on native Isle of Man driving a Mazda. In 1991 he won Manx Stage Rally Championship in an Escort MkII and he was also runner-up in GpN2 on the Manx International Rally. In 1992 he won Peugeot Challenge with four of 10 rounds still remaining and was rewarded with a Shell Scholarship for the seasons 1993-94.

In 1994 Martin won British Open Rally Championship GpN title, with four wins and three runner-up finishes. His World Championship debut was great finishing fifth in F2 category driving a Peugeot 306 on RAC Rally. 1995 Selected by Peugeot Sport to be its works driver in Mobil 1 Top Gear British Championship. In 1996 he scored VW’s best result of year with second in two-litre division and fourth overall on Manx International. In 1997 he took overall victory on final round of British Rally Championship, his home event the Manx International, to claim runner-up position in series and finally 1998 he achieved British Rally Championship.

In 2002 he tackled all six rounds of the FIA Super 1600 category, widely regarded as the junior world championship, in a Ford Puma S1600 and he also contested the Production Car World Rally Championship in a Mitsubishi Lancer.
