Kaikkien kokeneiden web-sivustojen tekijöiden lähes yksimielinen
mielipide on, että AOLPressin kaltaiset HTML-editorit ovat vain pahaksi.
Lähinnä esitetään neljää perustelua:
En suinkaan kiistä näitä perusteluja. Uskallan kuitenkin väittää, että AOLPress oikein käytettynä eliminoi nämä ongelmat varsin hyvin. Ja tällöin se antaa helpon, nopean ja aivan kelvollisia tuloksia tuottavan menetelmän etenkin niille, jotka tekevät tai ylläpitävät web-sivustoja vain satunnaisesti tai sivutehtävinään. Toki AOLPress on mielestäni myös käyttökelpoinen työkalu niillekin enemmän koodaaville, jotka osaavat niellä vähän ylpeyttään. Mainitsemistani neljästä ongelmasta kohdasta 1. olen sitä mieltä, että jokaisen sivuja vähänkin tekevän on ehdottomasti hyödyllistä opetella vähintäänkin HTML-koodauksen perusasiat. AOLPressissä on oiva mahdollisuus siirtyä halutessaan tekstimuotoiseen koodaukseen, ja ainakin minä käytän sitä varsin usein. Kohdasta 2. olen sitä mieltä, että AOLPress sinänsä tekee hyvää ja standardia koodia. Se ei kuitenkaan estä huononkaan koodin tekemistä ja sen työkalunappulasto onkin asennuksen jälkeen sellainen, jossa on mukana juuri niitä huonoja työkaluja. Työkaluston voi kuitenkin muuttaa täysin haluamakseen, ja myöhempänä kerronkin, miten ne pitäisi asettaa. Kohdasta 3. voin sanoa, että AOLPress ei muuta käytännöllisesti katsoen mitään käsinkirjoitettua koodia. Ainoa minkä se tekee, on HTML-koodin muotoilu, mistä minulla ei ole mitään pahaa sanottavaa. Kohdan 4. jätän kunkin itsensä arvioitavaksi. |
Almost unanimous opinion of all experienced web
site makers is that such HTML editors as AOLPress just make things worse.
They typically state these four arguments for it:
I do not dispute these arguments. But I dare to claim that AOLPress, when used correctly, will eliminate these problems rather well. And, used that way, it does provide an easy, fast and satisfyingly productive method especially for those who make or maintain web sites only occasionally or as a secondary task. Surely AOLPress is, according to my opinion, a usable tool for those heavy coders who are not too high and mighty. About the item 1. of the four problems I mentioned, I think that everyone who has even some web pages to do is better to learn at least the basics fo HTML coding. In AOLPress there is a splendid possibility to move to text based editing at will, and at least I use it very often. About the item 2. I think that AOLPress produces reasonably good and standard code. But it does not prevent you from making bad code and by default the tool buttons are selected to contain tools for bad coding. Fortunately the tool bar can be adjusted fully and further I will tell how to do that. About the item 3. I can tell that AOLPress does not change practically speaking any hand written code. The only thing that it does is to reformat the code for structural outlook and easy reading, and I have nothing against that. I will leave the item 4. to be judged by you. |
Työkalunappulat ovat ne nelikulmaiset kuvakkeet, jotka ovat
rivissä heti AOLPressin valikkorivin alla. Niitä pääsee
asettelemaan Tools-valikon kautta valitsemalla
Preferences ja Configure Toolbar. Esiin tulevan
syöttöruudun vierityslistassa on hyvin suuri määrä
sellaisia AOLPressin ominaisuuksia, joille on oma työkalunappulansa.
Sopiviin kohtiin on lisätty vaakaviiva, jonka valitsemalla saa nappuloiden
väliin pienen raon. Osa työkalujen nimistä on
värillisiä. Ne ovat ne työkalut, joilla on nappula parhaillaan
työkalurivillä. Turvallisin tapa käsitellä listaa on
pitää Ctrl-näppäin painettuna ja vaihtaa
haluamiensa työkalujen valintatilaa klikkaamalla hiiren vasemmalla
painikkeella. Jos nimittäin valitsee työkalun ilman
Ctrl-näppäintä, kaikki vanhat valinnat poistuvat.
Suosittelen valitsemaan edempänä olevan listan mukaiset työkalut työkaluriville. Listaa voit tietenkin myöhemmin sovittaa omaan makuusi, mutta valitettavasti niiden määrää rajoittaa AOLPress-ikkunan leveys. Nappulat kun eivät mene kahdelle riville.

Tool buttons are those square icons that are on
the line just below AOLPress menu line. You can adjust them through
Tools menu by selecting Preferences and
Configure Toolbar. On the appearing entry screen there is a
scrollable list containing a large amount of such AOLPress features, that
have their own tool buttons. In suitable places there are horizontal lines
which, when selected, cause a narrow space between the buttons. Some of the
names of the tools are colored. They are the tools that currently have a
button on the toolbar. The safest way to handle the list is to keep the
Ctrl key pressed an toggle the state of desired tools by clicking
them with the left button of the mouse. If you happen to click a tool name
without the Ctrl key, all current selections disappear.
I advice you to select the tools listed below for the toolbar. Of course you may adjust the list to suit your taste, but unfortunatelly the number of tools is restricted by the width of the window. The toolbar will not fold on two lines.

AOLPressin puutteeksi voi sanoa, että se ei automaattisesti
lisää sivun koodiin kaikkia sellaisia perusasioita, joiden voi
katsoa kuuluvan hyvään HTML-koodaustapaan. Sellaisia ovat
DOCTYPE- ja muutama META-komento. Puute on kuitenkin
helppo korjata käyttämällä mallisivutiedostoa, jota sitten
käyttää aina pohjana uutta sivua tehdessään. Tietenkin
pohjana voi myös käyttää aiemmin tehtyä sivua.
Oheinen sivupohja on suunnilleen sellainen, jota itse käytän. Sen voit tietenkin sovittaa omaan käyttöösi sopivaksi. |
One might say that one deficiency of AOLPress is
that it does not automatically include into the page code such basic structures,
which can be taken as good HTML coding habbit. DOCTYPE and some
META tags are such structures. The deficiency is easily correctable
by using a model page file, which is used as a template when creating a new
page. Of course one can use an earlier page as a template.

Kun panet sivuillesi kuvia, älä unohda kirjoittaa
ALT-tekstiä, joka tulee asianomaisen syöttöruudun
Description-kenttään. HTML-koodissa se näkyy
IMG-komennon ALT=""-parametrina.
ALT-tekstin merkitys on se, että jos
käytettävä selain ei voi näyttää kuvia, se
esittää sen sijaan tuon ALT-tekstin. Mieti
ALT-tekstit siis siltä kannalta, että kuva ei ole
nähtävissä ja tekstin pitäisi toimia sen korvikkeena.
Älä unohda kirjoittaa sivulle merkityksellistä otsikkoa AOLPressin tarjoaman tai sivupohjassani olevan tilalle. Internet näyttää olevan täynnään sivuja, joiden otsikkona on "Welcome to AOLPress 2.0". Kannattaa myös lukea tarkasti läpi Jukka "Yucca" Korpelan Web-julkaisemisen opas. |
When you put images on your site, do not forget
to write ALT text, which is done on the appropriate entry screen
in Description field. In HTML code it appears in
IMG tag as ALT="" parameter. The effect of ALT
text is, that if the browser used can not display images, it will instead
display ALT text. So think ALT text from the point of view, that the image
is not visible and the text should act as a substitute.
Do not forget to write a meaningful title for the page to replace the one that AOLPress offers or the one that is on my page template. Internet seems to be full of pages with title "Welcome to AOLPress 2.0". It would serve you well to read Web authoring and surfing of Jukka "Yucca" Korpela. |
| Sivuille kannattaa ainakin silloin tällöin tehdä
laatutarkastus eli validiointi. Laatutarkastus voidaan tehdä jollakin
validator-ohjelmalla, joita löytyy Internetistä freewarena ja
sharewarena. Tai sitten voidaan käyttää Internetissä
olevia yleensä ilmaisia validiointipalveluja. Tämä onnistuu
tietenkin vain oltaessa yhteydessä Internetiin.
Laatutarkastuksessa validaattori tarkastaa sivun HTML-koodin verraten sitä
HTML-standardin johonkin versioon. Viisainta on kertoa validaattorille,
mitä standardin versiota haluaa noudattaa. Se tapahtuu sillä
Pelkän tarkastuksen lisäksi monet validiointipalvelut tekevät laajempaakin analyysia ja antavat hyviä neuvoja ja suosituksia. Alempana osoitteita muutamiin HTML-palveluihin. |
It is recommended to validate the pages from time
to time. You can do that with one of the validator programs, which can be
found in Internet as freeware and shareware. Or you can use usually free
validating services in Internet. Of course, this you can do only when you
are on-line.
When working, the validator inspects the HTML code
of the page against some version of HTML standard. It is wise to tell the
validator, which version of the standard you want to obey. It may be done
by using Many validating services do not only inspect the code but analyze it more deeply and offer good advices and recommendations. Addresses to some HTML services: |
